SEX FARM
l’m a first-time grower with some clones and plants grown from seed. The seed plants are close to the end of the preflowering stage, and even with the books I have, I’m having a hard time telling if they’re male or female. Since I definitely don’t want males, any help or directions would be really appreciated.

Dear Enigma,
It’s tougher to determine your plants‘ sex during the preflowering stage, and it’s also unnecessary to do so until flowering has begun. Within a week or two of the 12/12 light cycle, you should be able to see signs of males and females clearly, with plenty of time to discard the gents before they pollinate your ladies.
Males will have what look like sticks protruding from their nodes (the place where the leaf meets the stem). Slowly, those sticks form into hanging bunches that resemble miniature bananas pointing down. Females, on the other hand, will first shoot out white hairs from the nodes that then begin forming into small puffballs pointing up.
