BURNT CUTS
First of all, thanks again for all the great info regarding growing medicine month after month—it’s nice to have an expert on call to handle inquiries. Speaking of which, I have a dilemma regarding clones. I just purchased a T5 fluorescent system to light my clone tank. I’m about five days in, and it seems like the T5s are burning the clones (browning and curling their leaves(. Are T5s too bright or too powerful for clones? Also, do they need 24 hours of light, or is that part of the reason for the burning? The lighting system is approximately four inches over the clone dome I’m using. (I’m also using rockwool. FYI.) Any advice?

Dear DD,
Thanks for the kind words; it makes me very happy to help people grow better buds! TS bulbs don’t produce much heat, so at the distance you have them, your clones shouldn’t be burning up the way you describe. Use a thermometer to make sure the temperature at clone level isn’t higher than 85°F. If the temps are good, you might be burning the clones with a nutrient solution that’s too strong. Check the fertilizer levels, and always clone using a mild nutrient solution. Also, your clones should be kept under 18 to 22 hours of tight. 4
